Davis Wright Tremaine LLP seeks to hire an associate with a minimum of five years' relevant experience (as described below) to join its vibrant New York and national employment law practice. We are looking for someone who has a keen interest in taking ownership of cases and other matters, and who has the skills, experience, and professional judgment to do so successfully, while working closely with other attorneys on the team in NY.
Candidates must be admitted to practice in New York state and federal courts, and must have a demonstrated track record of successfully defending employment litigation from start to finish (including drafting responsive pleadings and/or motions to dismiss; engaging in discovery, including taking and defending depositions; drafting summary judgment motions, and participating in court conferences and mediation). Experience preparing cases for jury trial is a plus, but is not required. Candidates also must have broad employment counseling expertise. The successful candidate’s practice at DWT will include employment litigation defense (both single plaintiff and class action cases, in state and federal court), as well as defense of arbitrations and complaints filed with administrative agencies. In addition, the role will involve counseling clients on a broad range of employment law issues, including wage/hour questions, leave of absences, and requests for accommodation; drafting and reviewing workplace policies and employee handbooks; drafting employment agreements and related documents; conducting investigations; and conducting workplace training. Prior substantive experience counseling clients in at least several of these areas is required.
This opportunity is ideal for someone interested in joining a small NY-based team, where they can accelerate their professional development and build a broad and rewarding employment practice in a collegial environment.
We are relentlessly committed to client service and look for candidates who share that commitment. At DWT, client service means having empathy for each client’s and each lawyer’s work and personal pressures, business objectives, and legal needs; anticipating their needs; and having the capabilities and commitment to deliver what matters most to them.
To apply, please upload a cover letter addressed to Morgan Dufault, Manager of Lawyer Talent Acquisition, resume, a copy of your law school transcript, and a brief writing sample (10 pages max). We are currently accepting submissions from third-party recruiters.
