Administrative Legal Assistant

Applications Engineer

This role is responsible, as a member of the Applications Engineering Team, for ensuring the stable operation of back end applications. As Technical Owner of and Subject Matter Expert, this position owns uptime and top level support escalations for their applications. This individual uses a highly developed technical skill set to assist the design and implementation of core applications, improve support workflows, and facilitate the implementation of systems projects and platforms in a diverse and dynamic technical environment. This position is required to be on-site to attend regular meetings, to maintain visibility, and to collaborate with other members of the IT Department.

Responsibilities: 
  •  Install, administer, and maintain core and/or desktop applications to meet project and firm needs including monitoring, disaster recovery/business continuity, data security, and documentation
  • Pursue a formal and informal program of continuing education to keep current on new developments and to sharpen skills; ensure that the firm is taking optimal advantage of existing and new technologies
  • Use Powershell, SQL scripts and stored procedures, ETL tools, and other technologies to automate for reliability, and to reduce manual administration and support
  • Participate in product evaluations, planning, implementation, and upgrades of systems, applications, and services
  • Facilitate and oversee vendor services and monitor performance of project teams and users as required to ensure maximum system availability and reliability
  • Maintain guidelines, procedures, documentation and associated training plans for application administration and appropriate use
  • Establish, coordinate, recommend and maintain standards and procedures to support the needs of the firm, and support continual process improvement in those standards and procedures
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation as directed to respond to reported issues with systems infrastructure and coordinate departmental resources in resolving those issues
  • Formally and informally collaborate in cross-functional teams with other Information Technology department members to develop/recommend coordinated solutions
  • Develop, drive, and execute programs for continual measurement of the firm’s information systems performance and effectiveness; evaluate reports to identify and correct deficiencies and irregular operations
  • Assist in recommending hardware/software or corrective action as needed to assure performance requirements for continuity of service, system response time, security, reporting, backup and recovery are met
  • Participate in overall network administration, maintenance and standards implementation
  • Assist in the preparation of annual IT budget and meet annual budget targets
  • Follow documented processes for change control and patch management

  •  BS/BA in Information Technology, Engineering, Communications or equivalent experience is required
  • 3+ years’ experience with scripting languages including PowerShell or VB Script required

  • Previous experience performing IT support in legal, medical, or other professional services setting a plus
  • Ability to be on site during regular business hours to attend meetings, maintain personal interaction and visibility, and collaborate with team members in the IT department is required

Conflicts Staff Attorney

Seattle

This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the screening of potential client engagements in accordance with the firm’s risk management procedures and policies, with a focus on conflicts screening for lateral attorney hires.

Responsibilities
  •  Undertake and analyze conflicts database searches with respect to prior and current clients of lateral-hire attorney candidates at all levels
  • Provide detailed reports with respect to lateral-hire attorney candidates to Practice Group Chairs, Partners In Charge, and other stakeholders
  • Work closely with HR Recruiting team in supporting the lateral-hire attorney recruiting and onboarding process with respect to conflicts of interest issues
  • Coordinate administrative opening of new matters for incoming lateral-hire attorneys. Including identifying conflicts of interest and drafting waivers with respect to those conflicts that a current firm client and/or a lateral hire attorney’s prior or current client may waive under the applicable Rules of Professional Conduct
  • Participate in training sessions for attorneys and staff regarding the firm’s conflict screening and new client/new matter intake processes
  • Participate in Conflicts Staff Attorney on-call coverage for conflicts checks related to new business intake
  • Update department training materials on conflict and new business intake issues
  • Run special searches as needed (i.e. prior relations of new attorneys, potential merger, etc.) to identify potential conflict issues
  • Participate in special projects involving ne business intake best practices and risk management initiatives
  • Assist with other administrative tasks, and/or support as assigned
Qualifications
  •  Juris Doctor; licensed to practice in one or more United States jurisdictions required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of conflicts of interest rules under the Rule of Professional Conduct required, prior experience with conflict analysis in a large law firm environment is ideal
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written, required
  • Ability to build relationships with other attorneys to gain confidence in the conflicts analysis and approval process required

Case Management
  •  Proactively serving as the focal point for litigation team communications and centralized repository for information on project assignments and status
  • Working with secretaries and docketing personnel to ensure that both calendar systems contain accurate and current information
  • Overseeing creation, indexing, and continued maintenance of complex case files and document collections

IT Procurement Specialist

This position will support the Information Technology (IT) Procurement Manager with managing all equipment purchases, invoice processing, software license management, management of lease schedules and returns, vendor management, and budget preparation and monitoring. May be asked to conduct research on hardware or software needs to make recommendations to the senior management team.

  • Participating in project meetings as needed to identify and manage any procurement needs related to IT initiatives
  • Keeping information accessible by documenting purchases, assets, invoices and contracts
  • Maintaining positive relationships with a variety of vendors.  Periodically conduct research to ensure that the firm is getting the best price available on its purchases
  • Conducting research and handle other special projects/assignments as requested
  • Demonstrating initiative and a sense of ownership for assigned duties
