Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking an experienced mid to senior level employment litigation attorney for engagement through the firm’s alternative-track contract attorney and staffing program, DWTSurge. The selected contract attorney will work with the Employment Services practice group handling single plaintiff litigation and PAGA/class action litigation matters. Attorneys based in and admitted to practice in California are preferred. Attorneys should be able to accommodate West Coast business hours.

 

The selected attorney will assist the firm's Employment Services group with California employment litigation matters, with a focus on employment defense litigation, single plaintiff litigation, and class/PAGA litigation cases. Attorneys with demonstrated experience managing all phases of litigation and specifically California employment litigation matters are encouraged to apply.

 

The selected resource will be responsible for drafting motions and discovery, and working directly with client teams, counterparties, and other stakeholders in support of large institutional clients. Attorneys should be highly organized with strong case management skills and will be required to regularly manage multiple matters with competing deadlines. Attorneys should be able to work independently and exercise good judgement, but should also collaborate easily with lawyers and support staff to meet discrete litigation objectives within short deadlines.

This contract position offers the flexibility of fully remote work and an anticipated 20-40 hours/week. Hours may fluctuate depending on the availability of appropriate work. We anticipate this temporary contract role to start as soon as possible and end in late February or early March 2026. There is a possibility of an extension or renewal of the contract for successful candidates, although any extension or renewal is not guaranteed. We are looking for attorneys interested in establishing an alternative-track working relationship with the firm on an exclusive basis. 

 



The ideal candidate will have: 

 
  • 5+ years of employment litigation experience in a mid-large law firm or in-house setting. 
  • Residency and active bar admission in California.
  • Strong experience managing employment defense, single plaintiff, and PAGA or class action litigation cases.
  • A demonstrated understanding of California and federal employment laws and regulations.

  • Experience representing client interests when meeting and conferring with various stakeholders, including opposing counsel.
  • Strong legal research skills.
  • Excellent legal drafting and communication skills, including oral and written advocacy.
  • Ability to distill research into meaningful and persuasive written work product, as well as to work meticulously to ensure work product quality.
  • High-level of responsiveness and client service abilities.
  • Availability to work from 20-40 hours per week and maintain PST business hours.
  • Flexibility for anticipated hours to fluctuate as needed.

  • Ability to work remotely and quickly handle high volume litigation matters. 
  • Excellent writing skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to produce high quality work product with minimal supervision and direction. 
  • Excellent proactive communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain effective working relationships and communicate verbally and in writing, with clients, firm members, and other business contacts.

Salary Range:

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking an experienced litigation paralegal through the firm’s alternative-track contract attorney and staffing program, DWTSurge. The selected paralegal will work with the firm’s Healthcare practice to provide advanced healthcare litigation support for the firm’s institutional clients. Paralegals located in Sacramento, CA are preferred. The selected paralegal should be prepared to support West Coast business hours.

 

The selected paralegal will be responsible for managing discovery, maintaining litigation databases, preparing materials for hearings and trials, coordinating trial logistics, and serving as a liaison to the Firm’s clients. Close attention to detail, sound judgement, strong administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills while prioritizing and managing multiple assignments are required.

 


This contract position offers the flexibility of a hybrid working schedule and full-time hours; 37.5 hours per week is generally anticipated. The amount of work may vary from week to week and a minimum number of hours of work per week is not guaranteed. Responsibilities

 
  • Utilize Excel, Relativity, and other platforms for data analysis, coding, exports, and database management to support mediation and settlement processes.
  • Coordinate all case matters as the primary point of communication for litigation teams, including maintaining case calendars, collaboration on deadlines, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other sensitive healthcare data requirements.
  • Manage complex case files, including creating, indexing, and proofreading legal documents for accuracy, proper citation, and meeting court/regulatory filing requirements, particularly in healthcare cases.
  • Conduct advanced legal and factual research, organize, and oversee healthcare-related document collections, and assist in drafting discovery documents and memoranda.
  • Assist with document collection and tracking, ensuring proper handling of electronically stored information (ESI) in collaboration with Practice Support and eDiscovery Project Managers, and outside service provider support teams.
  • Ensure proper redaction and handling of protected health information (PHI) and sensitive healthcare data in compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and other privacy regulations.
  • Support all phases of mediation, arbitration, or trial preparation, including assembling exhibits and witness lists, coordinating logistics, and working with experts and vendors.
  • Accurately record billable time and manage submissions of time entries in accordance with firm guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervising attorneys, the Senior Director, Practice Support & Paralegal Operations, and Senior Paralegal Manager.

 

The ideal candidate will have: 

 

  • 3+ years of complex litigation paralegal experience at a mid-sized or large law firm and/or with large institutional clients, with a strong preference for experience in healthcare-related litigation or regulated industries.
  • Residency in Sacramento, California.
  • Bachelor’s degree and completion of paralegal program of study, or clear demonstration of equivalent knowledge and skill in accordance with state requirements.

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is searching for a full-time patent prosecution scientist to work through the Firm’s alternative-track attorney and staffing program, DWTSurge. We are particularly interested in patent scientists with a desire to work with clients of all sizes and in a variety of industries. A technical background in computer technology is required. Candidates with hands-on experience in supporting a diverse range of clients, from startups to Fortune 500 companies, across various technology areas such as mechanical devices, consumer products, and designs, are highly desired. Technical experience with cloud computing, cryptography, information security, robotics or blockchain are also desirable candidate qualifications.
 
Patent scientists with experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in-house or as outside counsel for medium/large firms are encouraged to apply.

  • 2+ years of experience with patent prosecution as a patent scientist

Please note that this position is managed by DWT’s flexible attorney and staffing program, DWTSurge, and offers a contract for a specified term that may be renewed on an annual basis for successful candidates. The initial term offered will run through the end of the calendar year and will offer full time employment with an annual 1,800 billable hour requirement. We are interested in candidates who are electing to pursue more flexible opportunities while also focusing on providing continuous, high-value legal services to clients. 
 
The annualized salary range for this full-time contract patent scientist position in Los Angeles, California is $111,000 to $124,000; and San Francisco, California is $121,000 to $138,000. The annualized salary range for this position in New York is $128,000 to $139,000. The annualized salary range for this position in Washington is $111,000 to $124,000. The annualized salary range for this position in Maryland is $114,000 to $130,000. The annualized salary range for this position in Washington D.C. is $114,000 to $130,000. The annualized salary range for this position in Minnesota is $96,000 to $109,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on the candidate’s education, training, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking a research librarian or analyst through the firm’s alternative-track contract attorney and staffing program, DWTSurge. This position will be part of a forward-thinking Library & Research Services (L&RS) team responsible for gathering, synthesizing and delivering legal, business and technical information to attorneys and staff; providing training and assistance in the use of a variety of research, current awareness, competitive intelligence and knowledge management tools; and collaborating with teammates, practice groups and staff to provide innovative solutions that support the complex, evolving research needs of DWT clients. Candidates may work remotely but should initially be able to accommodate West Coast business hours for training purposes.

 

This contract position offers the flexibility of fully remote work and part-time hours, with an anticipated average of 20 hours of work per week. Hours may fluctuate depending on the availability of appropriate work. We anticipate this temporary contract role to start as soon as possible and last for a term of 3-4 months. There is a possibility of an extension or renewal of the contract for successful candidates, although any extension or renewal is not guaranteed.   • Collaborate with a nationwide team of librarians to provide comprehensive and sophisticated research, current awareness, and knowledge management services for attorneys and staff in all DWT offices
  • Develop and maintain expertise in the use of a wide variety of legal, business and practice-related resources
  • Assist with various administrative duties and projects as necessary

 

The ideal candidate will have:

 
  • An MLS or JD
  • 5+ years of legal reference and research experience, preferably at a law firm or corporate library.
  • Candidates will be considered if they have residency in one of the following states: AK, AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, MD, MN, MT, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, TN, TX, VA, WA, WDC, or WV.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with major legal and business research platforms, public records resources, competitive intelligence tools, and state and federal legal information sources.

  • Expert customer service skills.
