Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking a mid-level associate with a minimum of three years’ experience to join its commercial litigation group in Los Angeles. We prefer candidates with clerkship and law-firm experience, including managing cases; drafting and research responsibility for pleadings and contested motions (such as motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, preliminary injunction or class certification briefing); taking depositions; propounding written discovery and responses; and arguing motions. Candidates with experience or demonstrated interest in complex litigation—especially areas of focus such consumer class actions and other business litigation—preferred.  We will also consider applicants with trademark and trade secret experience.  Excellent writing and oral advocacy skills are required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Structure, draft, and negotiate strategic transactions involving advanced technologies, including fintech, cloud services, software, and AI. 
  • Structure, draft and negotiate vendor, supplier and outsourcing agreements. 
  • Counsel clients on the evolving intellectual property and regulatory landscape related to data, open banking, content agreements, and AI model development. 
  • Draft and negotiate agreements related to software licensing, technology development, commercialization, intellectual property rights, and content management. 
  • Provide legal guidance on advertising, marketing, promotions law, and product counseling for launches of innovative technologies and services. 
  • Stay ahead of new trends and developments in artificial intelligence, fintech, open banking emerging technologies, and related regulatory frameworks to provide thought leadership and strategic counsel to clients. 
  • Draft and negotiate agreement related to licensing AI Systems and content licenses for AI mode training. 

 

Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in the firm’s relevant jurisdiction(s). 
  • 4–8 years of experience in technology transactions, licensing, intellectual property, fintech and outsourcing. 
  • Strong understanding of issues relating to the development, implementation, and commercialization of advanced technologies, including payments, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and software. 
  • Experience negotiating complex agreements, including intellectual property rights, data access and licensing arrangements. 
  • Experience working with fintech, financial institution and digital asset clients. 
  • Exceptional writing, communication, and negotiation skills, with keen attention to detail. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. 

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience negotiating AI System licenses and content licenses for AI training. 
  • Familiarity with advertising, marketing law, and regulatory issues affecting emerging technologies. 
  • Experience advising clients on the intellectual property aspects of M&A and other transactional matters.
